Kicking off our vacation-themed July, we begin with road trips! Inspired by our own experiences with summers spent on the road, we put together this list of game ideas to keep kids entertained without screens on road trips!

🔍 Car Spy

I Spy is a classic for road trips, but try out adding some of these rules to make it more fun in a car:

- Things can only be in the car

- Things can only be outside of the car

- Things can only start with a certain letter, be of a certain color, etc.

☁️ Cloud Stories

Great for trips on days with lots of visible clouds! Look at the clouds until you see a shape form to give you a character for a story that you make up about what you see in the clouds.

🕵🏽‍♀️ ABC Road Search

Spot things along the road that start with each letter of the alphabet, one at a time, going through the letters in order. For example, you might see an Appalachian Trail sign, then you would look for something like a Bookstore, etc. If you make it through the alphabet once, try going in reverse alphabetical order for a greater challenge.

❓ 20 Questions

Start by thinking of a person, place, or thing and everyone else in the car then can ask up to 20 yes-or-no questions altogether to try and guess what the player is thinking of. To make it more fun for the road, try to make the person, place, or thing either related to your destination or to what you have passed by on the side of the road.

We hope that these games help you and your kids make some great memories as you hit the road this summer!
